Virat Kohli Smashes Ninth IPL Century, Becomes Fastest Batter to Reach 14,000 T20 Runs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli scripted another major milestone in his career on Wednesday by scoring his ninth Indian Premier League century and becoming the fastest player to complete 14,000 runs in T20 cricket.
Kohli’s unbeaten 105-run knock guided RCB to a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2026 clash in Raipur, helping the team successfully chase a target of 192.
The innings also marked a strong comeback for the 37-year-old batter, who had registered ducks in his previous two matches.
Kohli Leads RCB Chase With Aggressive Century
Opening the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli adopted an attacking approach from the start and remained unbeaten on 105 off 60 deliveries.
His innings included 11 boundaries and three sixes as Bengaluru chased down the target comfortably with six wickets in hand.
The century was Kohli’s second IPL hundred against KKR and his first in the tournament since the 2024 season.
The performance also pushed him into the top five of the IPL 2026 Orange Cap standings, with 484 runs this season at an average above 53.
Fastest Player to Reach 14,000 T20 Runs
With the innings, Kohli became the fastest batter in the world to complete 14,000 runs in T20 cricket.
He is now the sixth player overall to cross the milestone in the format, joining an elite list that includes Chris Gayle, David Warner, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard and Alex Hales.
Kohli achieved the milestone in fewer innings than any other player in T20 history, adding another record to his already extensive list of batting achievements.
Return to Form After Lean Patch
The century came at an important stage of the tournament after Kohli faced criticism following consecutive low scores.
His composed yet aggressive innings against KKR not only revived his form but also strengthened Bengaluru’s campaign in the ongoing IPL season.
Cricket analysts noted that Kohli balanced risk and control effectively during the chase, accelerating in the middle overs while maintaining stability at the crease.
Why the Achievement Matters
Kohli’s latest milestone further cements his status as one of the most successful batters in modern T20 cricket.
The IPL century and 14,000-run landmark highlight his consistency across formats and longevity in the shortest format of the game.
The innings is also significant for RCB as the team continues its push for playoff qualification in IPL 2026.
Focus Shifts to Upcoming IPL Fixtures
With momentum back on their side, RCB will now look to build on the victory in their upcoming matches.
Kohli’s return to top form could prove crucial for Bengaluru during the final phase of the tournament, especially as competition intensifies in both the points table and the Orange Cap race.
